Cyprus is stepping up its engagement with Central Asia as Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos begins a multi-country tour aimed at deepening political, economic, and diplomatic cooperation across the region.

The visit follows the official trip of Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides to Kazakhstan and reflects Nicosia’s growing interest in strengthening relations with Central Asian nations, The Caspian Post reports via Cyprus government.

First-Ever Visit to Tajikistan

On June 4, Kombos will make his first official visit to Tajikistan, where discussions are expected to focus on expanding bilateral relations and exploring new areas of cooperation.

The talks will also cover issues related to Cyprus’ upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union, offering an opportunity to exchange views on regional and international priorities.

Uzbekistan High on the Agenda

The Cypriot foreign minister will travel to Uzbekistan on June 6 for meetings aimed at maintaining the positive momentum in bilateral relations.

Officials are expected to discuss expanding political consultations, enhancing cooperation in key sectors, and identifying new opportunities for partnership between the two countries.

Focus on Kyrgyzstan’s Growing International Role

The final leg of the tour will take Kombos to Kyrgyzstan on June 8.

Discussions there will center on strengthening bilateral ties, expanding political and diplomatic contacts, and coordinating cooperation following Kyrgyzstan’s historic election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027-2028 term.
