Kazakh Doctors Remove Six Tumors During Complex Cesarean Surgery

Doctors at Kazakhstan's Almaty Multidisciplinary Clinical Hospital have successfully performed a rare and highly complex organ-preserving operation, delivering a healthy baby and removing multiple tumors during the same surgical procedure.

The patient, a 35-year-old woman diagnosed with multiple uterine fibroids during early pregnancy, was referred to the hospital from a district medical facility for specialized care, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

At 37 weeks of pregnancy, physicians carried out a planned cesarean section, ensuring the safe delivery of the baby. Immediately afterward, surgeons proceeded with a challenging myomectomy procedure, removing six uterine tumors ranging in size from 4 to 10 centimeters.

Despite the complexity of combining childbirth with tumor removal, the medical team successfully preserved the patient’s uterus, avoiding the need for a hysterectomy.

Doctors noted that such combined procedures are among the most difficult in obstetrics and gynecology due to the high risk of bleeding and surgical complications. Three experienced obstetrician-gynecologists participated in the operation.
