Expert: Cooperation with Azerbaijan - Key Foreign Policy Priority for Tajikistan

Komroni Hidayatzoda, member of the board of the Central Asian expert club “Eurasian Development” said that for Tajikistan, cooperation with Azerbaijan has become one of the key priorities of its foreign policy.

Speaking during a panel session titled “Connectivity and Development: The Economic Dimension of C6 Cooperation and Sustainable Growth,” Hidayatzoda stressed that Tajikistan - like other landlocked Central Asian states - views the development of transport and communication infrastructure as a strategic imperative, The Caspian Post reports via local media.

Strategic Focus on Connectivity

Without direct access to the world’s oceans, Tajikistan places particular emphasis on diversifying trade routes and strengthening transit partnerships. In this context, Azerbaijan plays a crucial role as a gateway linking Central Asia to the South Caucasus, Türkiye, and European markets.

“In this aspect, cooperation with Azerbaijan is one of Tajikistan’s key foreign policy directions,” the expert emphasized.

Middle Corridor as Development Tool

Hidayatzoda also recalled that in late December 2025, Tajik company Avesta Group signed an agreement to establish logistics enterprises oriented exclusively toward the Middle Corridor.

He noted that Dushanbe views the Middle Corridor not merely as a transit route but as an instrument for sustainable development, capable of boosting trade, investment, and long-term economic resilience across the region.

As C6 cooperation expands, analysts say connectivity initiatives could redefine Central Asia’s economic geography and strengthen cross-Caspian integration.
