By the end of 2027, nearly 2 GW of green energy will be transmitted to Azerbaijan's power grid, according to Javid Abdullayev, Director of the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency (AREA), under the Ministry of Energy.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Green and Digital Silk Road international acceleration program held in Baku, Abdullayev stated that three main stages are being considered for the use of green energy in Azerbaijan, The Caspian Post reports citing local media.
"We have already completed all the necessary work related to the first stage. Land plots have been identified, network-related problems have been resolved, and certain necessary agreements have been signed. These are purely the results of scientific analyses. We believe that nearly 2 GW of green energy will be transmitted to Azerbaijan's network by the end of 2027," he explained.
The director noted that the second stage is directly related to the topic being discussed today: "There is great green energy potential in Azerbaijan. It needs to be realized. Green energy will exceed our demand, and its export is of significant importance. In this sense, it is necessary to develop export potential and interconnectors. We need to work in this direction and achieve the necessary results."
Abdullayev stated that 4 interconnectors are already on the table, and all necessary work related to them is underway: "Each of these is related to today's acceleration program. We are already working together with the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport on optical components, and there is very significant progress there."
