EU May Withhold Financial Assistance to Georgia in 2026

The European Union (EU) may extend its suspension of financial assistance to Georgia until 2026. According to the European Commission, no financial aid was provided to the country based on the results of 2025, The Caspian Post reports, foreign media.

But this does not mean a complete halt to EU funding; however, significant state-level funding next year is unlikely unless clear political changes take place in Georgia, Tomas Zdechovsky, a Member of the European Parliament, told Izvestia.

He recalled that the suspension of this EU funding for Georgia occurred due to serious concerns about a retreat from democratic principles and violations of the rule of law in the country.

According to Zdechovsky, Georgia is in a deep political crisis, and the human rights situation there has significantly deteriorated since the 2024 parliamentary elections.
