Georgia Advances Renewable Energy with Approval of Two Solar Projects in Kakheti

The Georgian government has approved feasibility studies for two new solar power plants in Kakheti, marking another step in the country's strategy to boost its renewable energy capacity.

Decree signed by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze shows that the projects, Patardzeuli 1 and Patardzeuli 2, will be developed under an agreement between the Electricity System Commercial Operator (ESCO) and Kakheti Sun LLC, The Caspian Post reports citing foreign media.

Public registry records show Kakheti Sun LLC is fully owned by Velia LLC, with Nino Mchedlishvili holding a 67% stake and Lasha Iordanishvili controlling the remaining 33%.

The plants will be relatively small in scale but significant in contribution:

  • Patardzeuli 1will have an installed capacity of 1.75 MW, producing an estimated 2.96 million kWh annually.
  • Patardzeuli 2will also operate at 1.75 MW capacity, with expected annual output of 2.84 million kWh.
