Iran is looking to deepen its educational partnership with Russia by expanding student exchange programs and welcoming more Russian students to its universities.

Abbas Saidi, vice rector of Shahid Beheshti University, said the university strongly supports broader academic cooperation with Russia and hopes to see a growing number of Russian students studying in Iran, The Caspian Post reports via TASS.

"We support expanding relations with Russia in every area and would welcome more students from Russia. We also favor increasing student exchanges between the two countries," Saidi said.

He noted that the university currently has two Russian master's students enrolled.

Shahid Beheshti University, one of Iran's largest higher education institutions, has around 22,000 students, according to its rector, Mahmoud Reza Aghamiri. The university operates three campuses, 19 faculties, and 10 research institutes, including one specializing in nuclear physics.

Aghamiri said the university suffered heavy losses during recent regional tensions. Five of its nuclear physicists-including graduates of Russian universities-were killed in Israeli strikes in June 2025, while one university building was destroyed in a missile attack in March 2026.

He also claimed that Iran's nuclear technology is now entirely domestically developed and argued that foreign pressure is aimed at slowing the country's technological progress. Aghamiri thanked Russian and other international journalists for traveling to Tehran to cover the farewell ceremony for the late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
