Iran has summoned the UK ambassador to Tehran to protest what it described as repeated "false and baseless" accusations made by British officials against the Islamic Republic.
The envoy was called in by Alireza Yousefi, Iran's assistant foreign minister and director general for Western Europe, who delivered an official protest over what Tehran called the British government's "inappropriate approach" toward Iran, The Caspian Post reports via Mehr News Agency.
During the meeting, Iranian officials handed over a formal diplomatic note rejecting allegations that Tehran had attempted to carry out activities threatening the United Kingdom's security.
Yousefi said the accusations were politically motivated and accused Britain of trying to deflect attention from its own policies. He also criticized London's support for the United States and Israel, claiming their actions have contributed to instability in West Asia.
The Iranian diplomat urged the British government to reconsider its policy toward Tehran and stop making what he described as "fabricated accusations."
He also called on the UK to end its support for anti-Iran groups and to stop hosting organizations and individuals that Tehran considers hostile, while reiterating Iran's criticism of British support for Israel.
