Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has condemned recent Iranian attacks on Gulf countries as a “dangerous miscalculation”, warning that the escalation could destabilize the region and shake the global economy.
Al Thani described the situation as a “very challenging period”, while praising the professionalism of Qatar’s defense and security forces, The Caspian Post reports via foreign media.
"It’s a deep sense of betrayal," he said. "Just one hour after the war began, Qatar and other Gulf states were attacked. We have made it clear that we will not participate in wars against our neighbors. We never expected this from Iran, a neighbor we have always tried to maintain good relations with. Their justifications are completely unacceptable."
While strongly condemning the attacks, Al Thani stressed that further military escalation would only worsen the crisis, and called on all parties to take responsibility for ending the conflict.
"We continue to pursue de-escalation," he added. "They are our neighbors-that is our destiny."
The prime minister also urged the United States to help reduce tensions, warning of the risk that the entire Gulf region could be drawn into war. He emphasized that diplomacy remains the only solution.
Al Thani refuted claims that the Iranian strikes were aimed at military targets, noting that civilian infrastructure, including international airports, water systems, and gas facilities, were deliberately targeted.
"Some 25% of the attacks hit civilian sites. What does this have to do with war? What are they trying to achieve?" he said.
Highlighting the global implications, Al Thani pointed out that Qatar supplies about 20% of the world’s gas and is one of the largest fertilizer producers on the planet. Prolonged disruptions in these supplies could affect markets, food security, and lives worldwide.
