Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that the US and Iran reached a key agreement on reducing the enrichment level of Tehran’s existing uranium stockpiles, marking a potentially significant step forward in ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Dar said that Washington had initially sought the removal of Iran’s nuclear stockpiles from the country. However, negotiators ultimately agreed on a different approach focused on lowering the enrichment level of the uranium already held by Tehran, The Caspian Post reports via Al Arabiya.

“America requested the transfer of Iran’s nuclear stockpiles, but we arrived at a solution involving the reduction of enrichment levels,” Dar said.

The Pakistani foreign minister noted that Iran’s uranium reserves remain stored underground, but emphasized that all parties concluded diplomacy remains the only viable path forward.
