5.0 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Near Kazakhstan–China Border

An earthquake has been recorded near the Kazakhstan-China border, sending light tremors across parts of southeastern Kazakhstan.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the quake struck on February 19 at 14:15 (GMT+5), with its epicenter located 317 kilometers southeast of Almaty. The reported magnitude was 5.0, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations provided slightly updated data, stating that the earthquake measured 5.3 in magnitude and that the epicenter was located 311 kilometers southeast of Almaty, near the border between Kyrgyzstan and China.

The estimated intensity of tremors in various settlements was as follows:

Narynkol (Raimbek district, Almaty region) - 3 points (66 km from epicenter)

Kegen (Kegen district, Almaty region) - 3 points (137 km)

Saty (Kegen district) - 2 points (193 km)

Kokpek (Enbekshikazakh district) - 2 points (201 km)

Zharkent (Panfilov district, Zhetysu region) - 2 points (224 km)

Shelek (Enbekshikazakh district) - 2 points (238 km)

Z. Kayipova village (Uygur district) - 2 points (266 km)

Malovodnoye (Enbekshikazakh district) - 2 points (268 km)

Turgen (Enbekshikazakh district) - 2 points (269 km)

No immediate reports of casualties or major damage have been announced. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as seismic activity remains a natural risk in the mountainous border regions of Central Asia.
