Nearly 100 observers from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will monitor Kazakhstan’s Constitutional Referendum scheduled for March 15.
Yevgeny Kozyak, head of the CIS Observers Mission Headquarters, said the mission has already been accredited following a meeting with Nurlan Abdirov, Chairman of the Central Referendum Commission. Monitoring activities are now underway, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
This marks the CIS Mission’s 19th visit to Kazakhstan and its 133rd observation mission overall since 2001, when the CIS Council of Heads of State authorized election monitoring across member states.
The mission headquarters is based in Astana, where long-term observers have already begun their work. Short-term observers are expected to arrive closer to referendum day.
The delegation will be led by Igor Petrishenko, First Deputy Secretary General of the CIS. Officials say the mission will operate under principles of independence and non-interference, pledging impartial monitoring and openness to media engagement.
