FM: Preparations for Kazakh Leader’s State Visit to Russia in Full Swing

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has informed Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev that preparations for President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s state visit to Russia in November are progressing at full speed.

Lavrov noted the visit is expected to be an event of truly international significance, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

During his meeting with Lavrov, Kosherbayev emphasized the personal and diplomatic importance of his first official trip to Russia since his appointment as Kazakhstan’s top diplomat.

"This visit is of particular significance, as it is my first official visit since my appointment. And I especially value the opportunity to renew the personal rapport I established during my tenure in Moscow as Kazakhstan’s ambassador," Kosherbayev said.

He also underlined the symbolic importance of the day, which marked 33 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Kazakhstan and Russia. Kosherbayev expressed his desire to maintain the relationships of trust and cooperation built with Russian officials, saying it would further contribute to a strong and constructive bilateral dialogue.

President Tokayev’s Visit: A Major Diplomatic Milestone

Lavrov reiterated the significance of the Kazakh president’s upcoming state visit, calling it a milestone in bilateral relations.

“Preparations for the state visit of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the Russian Federation are in full swing. This will be an event of truly international significance,” Lavrov said.

He added that the relationship between the two countries’ leaders remains strong, with four summit-level meetings held just this year. According to Lavrov, the depth of cooperation spans all sectors-from state governance to human activity-underscoring the multifaceted and practical nature of the strategic partnership.

Tech Cooperation in Space and Nuclear Energy

Lavrov also spotlighted the progress of joint high-tech projects between the two nations. On space exploration, he praised the advancements of the Baiterek project.

“The Kazakh-Russian Baiterek project, which contributes to developing Kazakhstan’s national space program, has entered its final phase. Our plans include joint launches of the advanced Soyuz-5 launch vehicle,” he stated.

In the energy sector, Lavrov welcomed Kazakhstan’s decision to designate Russia’s Rosatom as the lead company in the international consortium to build the country’s first nuclear power plant-a decision made in June.

“I have assured my colleague that I will conscientiously fulfill all my obligations in this area, fully and on time. The relevant agencies are now working on the technical, financial, and legal aspects,” Lavrov said.
