The 16th Francophonie Spring Festival has officially kicked off in Kazakhstan, transforming cities across the country into hubs of culture and creativity.
Running from March 30 to April 15, the large-scale cultural celebration brings together art, language, and international cooperation, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Embassies from Armenia, Belgium, Canada, France, Lithuania, Morocco, Romania, and Switzerland are taking part in the initiative, with events hosted in Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, Karaganda, Oskemen, and Kostanay.
This year’s program offers a diverse lineup, including film screenings, concerts, exhibitions, conferences, literary readings, and contests celebrating the French language and Francophone music. A key highlight is the Francophone Film Week, scheduled from April 1 to 6, featuring screenings in cinemas and at French Alliance venues.
Sylvain Guiaugue, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Kazakhstan, said that the festival plays a vital role in promoting both linguistic and cultural diversity.
“For us, holding Francophonie Spring is of great importance. For all Francophonie ambassadors, it is an opportunity to present our cultures and showcase their diversity,” said Guiaugue.
Organizers note that French remains the fourth most widely spoken language globally, with around 400 million speakers, underscoring the festival’s international significance.
Music lovers can look forward to live performances, including shows by French singer Voyou, alongside a Francophone song contest that highlights emerging talent.
The festival also features exhibitions and educational events, including a special exposition dedicated to Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral, university lectures by diplomats, and literary gatherings.
"Hosting this event in Kazakhstan allows residents across various cities to engage more closely with Francophone culture," the ambassador added.
Now in its 16th year, Francophonie Spring has become one of Kazakhstan’s key cultural platforms, strengthening international ties while celebrating the richness of the French-speaking world.
