Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has hailed the recently signed peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia as a historic milestone, marking the end of a decades-long conflict and the beginning of a new chapter in regional cooperation.
The statement was delivered by Ruslan Zheldibay, Advisor to the President and Press Secretary, The Caspian Post reports per Kazakh media.
The agreement, signed in Washington by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and US President Donald Trump, officially ends hostilities between Baku and Yerevan and opens the door to diplomatic relations and peaceful development.
President Tokayev praised the US for its pivotal role in brokering the deal, emphasizing that the energetic and effective mediation by President Trump was instrumental in bringing both sides to the table. He commended the leadership in Baku and Yerevan for demonstrating political courage and strategic foresight at a critical moment.
President Tokayev also underscored Kazakhstan’s role in supporting the peace process. He noted that Almaty hosted a series of ministerial-level negotiations between the two sides, where key elements of the treaty were discussed and refined.
"This agreement represents a major step toward lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus," President Tokayev said, reaffirming Kazakhstan’s commitment to regional peacebuilding and diplomacy.
