Kazakh Senate to Debate Key Deals With Mongolia, France

Members of the Kazakh Senate are set to convene on January 22 at 10:00 a.m. (GMT+5).

A key item on the agenda is the ratification of the Readmission Agreement between Kazakhstan and France, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The document establishes a legal framework for bilateral cooperation on the return of individuals who violate migration and residency rules in either country.

Under the agreement, citizens will be returned to their country of nationality in cases such as illegal residence or loss of identity documents. Notably, Kazakh nationals in France who lose their documents or are found to be staying illegally will be able to return home without facing sanctions, with assistance from the French Ministry of the Interior in processing the necessary paperwork.

The agreement was signed in Paris on November 5, 2024, and has already been ratified by the lower chamber of parliament, the Mazhilis.

In addition, senators are expected to consider an agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Mongolia on cooperation in pension benefits. Another item on the agenda is the election of Senate members to a joint commission of both parliamentary chambers reviewing the draft constitutional law on the special status of Alatau.

Alatau was granted special status by presidential decree last September. Under the plan, the city is envisioned as a fully digital urban center for the region, positioning it as a flagship for smart city development in Kazakhstan.
