Kazakhstan exported 27,000 tons of crude oil through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline in October 2025, marking a 1.5-fold increase from September’s 18,000 tons.
Shipments through the BTC pipeline were temporarily suspended in August after traces of organic chlorides were detected in certain batches of Azerbaijani crude transported via the route, The Caspian Post informs via local media.
Tengizchevroil (TCO) - one of Kazakhstan’s largest oil producers - is expected to resume exports in November, with an estimated 130,000 tons to be delivered through the BTC pipeline after a pause since August.
Earlier, Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov said Kazakhstan plans to supply 1.2 million tons of crude through BTC this year and is considering raising volumes to between 1.5 and 2.2 million tons in 2026.
Kazakhstan’s crude destined for BTC is shipped by tankers from the Caspian port of Aktau to Baku.
In 2022, KazMunayGas (KMG) and the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) signed a general transit agreement for Kazakh oil. The first test shipment of 7,000 tons from the Kashagan field was completed in March 2023, followed by a 2024 agreement to gradually increase transit volumes through Azerbaijan to 2.2 million tons per year.
