At the CIS Summit in Dushanbe, Kazakh President Kassym‑Jomart Tokayev has put forward the establishment of a Regional Center for Forecasting Climate and Technogenic Emergencies.
In his speech, President Tokayev underscored the vital role of digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI) in driving sustainable development and enhancing national competitiveness, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.
He detailed Kazakhstan’s push to embed digital transformation across public administration, social services, and citizens’ daily lives.
Among his announced initiatives, President Tokayev mentioned the creation of a Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, the drafting of a unified Digital Code, and the rollout of a national framework called “Digital Kazakhstan”, which will integrate the country’s various digital projects into a cohesive ecosystem. He invited all CIS member states to collaborate with Kazakhstan in this domain.
To cultivate innovation and human capital, President Tokayev also revealed plans for an AI University and a nationwide program engaging over 400,000 students. The aim is to form research teams and catalyze DeepTech startups, with a call to CIS nations to scale the program regionally and help train a globally competitive generation of specialists.
On the environmental front, the president warned about the alarming shrinkage of the Caspian Sea, deeming it not just a regional issue but a global one. He proposed an interstate initiative to safeguard the Caspian’s water resources, calling on interested nations and international bodies to join the effort.
With these proposals, President Tokayev reinforced Kazakhstan’s strategic vision of leading regional cooperation in both digital transformation and climate resilience within the CIS.
