Kazakhstan, China Launch $2B Renewable Energy Projects

Kazakhstan and China are ramping up cooperation in renewable energy, unveiling major joint projects worth over $2 billion aimed at accelerating the shift to low-carbon power.

The initiative includes the construction of two wind farms with a combined capacity of 1.5 GW and a 300 MW solar power plant. These projects will be developed between 2027 and 2029 across the Pavlodar, Karaganda, and Turkestan regions, The Caspian Post reports via Russian media.

The partnership is part of Kazakhstan’s broader strategy to expand clean energy and meet its target of increasing the share of renewables to 15% by 2030.

The projects are expected to generate significant economic benefits, creating more than 2,000 temporary jobs and over 200 permanent positions. Kazakhstan’s Samruk Energy Power Holding will act as a co-investor.

To accelerate implementation, authorities are introducing simplified procedures, allowing investors to access land, permits, and financing without auctions-provided they meet technical and financial requirements.

The growing collaboration between Kazakh and Chinese energy companies is seen as a key step toward building a sustainable, low-emissions energy future in the region.
