Kazakhstan is considering the introduction of a separate state strategy aimed at creating children’s content in the Kazakh language and strengthening oversight of platforms such as TikTok, YouTube and Instagram, according to MP Danabek Isabek.
Isabekov said that a high-quality digital environment in the Kazakh language has yet to be established, while social media platforms have become increasingly influential in shaping the attitudes and perceptions of children and teenagers, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.
“We must acknowledge that today the consciousness of our children is often shaped not by schools, but by TikTok. Especially during the summer holidays, the amount of time teenagers spend online increases several times. They become dependent on online games, short-form videos and uncontrolled content,” the lawmaker stated.
He also noted that cartoons, educational initiatives and children’s media platforms produced in the Kazakh language are currently unable to compete with the vast amount of content available on major global platforms.
According to Isabekov, this situation contributes to the spread of what he described as “clip thinking,” weakens national cultural identity and increases the influence of foreign cultures on younger generations.
