Kazakh Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov has announced that Kazakhstan temporarily reduced natural gas production at the Karachaganak field following a drone attack on the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant in Russia.
The minister said that gas output at one of Kazakhstan’s largest energy projects fell from 34,000 tons to 25,000 tons, a reduction of 9,000 tons, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.
Despite the production cut, the country’s energy security remains unaffected. Akkenzhenov stressed that Kazakhstan continues to meet all domestic gas supply obligations in full, ensuring stable deliveries to consumers across the country.
The development comes as Kazakhstan prepares for rising energy demand. Officials previously projected that the nation’s natural gas consumption will increase by an additional 1 billion cubic meters in 2026, highlighting the growing importance of reliable gas production and infrastructure.
The Karachaganak field is one of Kazakhstan’s largest oil and gas assets, making any production adjustments closely watched by both domestic and international energy markets.
