Kazakhstan, Cyprus Pledge Closer Cooperation at UN and OSCE

Kazakhstan and Cyprus have agreed to strengthen coordination within major international organizations, including the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), following high-level talks between their presidents in Astana.

Speaking at a joint media briefing, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said the two leaders discussed a range of international and regional issues amid growing global geopolitical tensions and an increasing number of conflicts around the world, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan and Cyprus share similar views on many key international challenges and support the peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.

“Our nations' positions on many pressing global issues are similar. Both countries firmly adhere to the principle that any conflicts must be resolved through peaceful and diplomatic means,” the Kazakh president said.

Following their meeting, President Tokayev and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides agreed to deepen cooperation within the UN, the OSCE, and other international organizations, while also working together to promote peace, stability, and international security.

Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to the principles of the UN Charter and international law, emphasizing respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity as fundamental pillars of global stability.

“Kazakhstan's position remains unchanged - all countries must strictly observe the UN Charter and the fundamental principles of international law,” he said. “Kazakhstan respects the territorial integrity of other states and calls on all countries to prioritize this principle.”

The Kazakh leader added that expanding ties with Cyprus is a shared objective and expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation would continue to grow across political, economic, and international platforms.

The talks reflect increasingly active relations between the two countries. Earlier, Tokayev noted that more than 400 companies with Cypriot capital currently operate in Kazakhstan, including around 30 registered with the Astana International Financial Centre, highlighting the growing economic dimension of the partnership.
