Kazakhstan-Italy Cultural Ties Deepen with Abai Kunanbayev Monument in Rome

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has announced that a monument honoring famous Kazakh poet and philosopher Abai Kunanbayev will be unveiled in Rome later this year.

President Tokayev made these remarks following high-level bilateral talks with Italian President Sergio Mattarella at the Akorda Palace, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.

The two leaders stressed that reinforcing cultural and humanitarian links forms a vital part of the growing cooperation between Kazakhstan and Italy.

Among other cultural diplomacy measures, a street in Kazakhstan’s capital will be named after the famed Italian explorer Marco Polo, and Italy will host next year the major exhibition Gold of the Nomads, showcasing Kazakhstan’s rich nomadic traditions and heritage.

Another anticipated event is the staging of Abai, a Kazakh opera, at the historic San Carlo Theatre in Naples, one of Europe’s oldest opera houses.

President Tokayev expressed sincere gratitude to the Italian people for their support of these initiatives, saying such gestures help strengthen ties and mutual understanding between the two nations.

Earlier in the day, the presidents held a private session in which they discussed deepening cooperation across multiple sectors-political, economic, cultural and beyond.
