During a working visit to Luxembourg, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Arman Issetov has held high-level talks with Jean Olinger, Secretary-General of Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, focusing on strengthening political dialogue and expanding economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides emphasized the importance of advancing the agreements made during the meeting between Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden, which took place on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly session in New York on September 23, 2025, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Issetov highlighted that this meeting injected new momentum into bilateral relations and opened doors for further cooperation. Issetov described Luxembourg as a key partner within the European Union and stressed the significance of this year’s 10th anniversary of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Kazakhstan and the EU. He identified promising areas for collaboration, including green technologies, digitalization, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture.
Olinger commended Kazakhstan’s efforts in promoting regional stability and affirmed Luxembourg’s recognition of Kazakhstan as a reliable partner in Central Asia. He expressed his commitment to deepen cooperation within EU frameworks and international organizations such as the United Nations, while supporting joint economic and humanitarian initiatives.
Following the talks, both parties reiterated their mutual commitment to strengthening political dialogue, expanding trade and investment cooperation, and enhancing ties between their foreign ministries.
Trade between Kazakhstan and Luxembourg reached $13.6 million in the first eight months of 2025, primarily driven by imports from Luxembourg. In 2024, trade turnover totaled $19.54 million, with exports at $36,500 and imports at $19.5 million. Direct investments from Luxembourg into Kazakhstan increased to $520.5 million in 2024, up from $424.5 million in 2023. Since 2005, Luxembourg’s total investment in Kazakhstan has reached $3.5 billion, supporting 178 enterprises operating with Luxembourg capital.
In a related development, Luxembourg recently marked a historic transition with the abdication of Grand Duke Henri and the accession of his eldest son, Guillaume V, to the throne.
