Preliminary results from Kazakhstan’s constitutional referendum show strong public support.
Voting concluded on March 16 at 08:00 (GMT+5), with a turnout of 73.12 per cent, totaling 9,127,192 participants, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Preliminary data indicate 7,954,667 citizens (87.15 per cent) supported the proposed constitutional amendments, while 898,099 voted against and 146,558 ballots were invalid.
Regional support highlights include:
Pavlodar region: 94.14 per cent
Aktobe region: 93.96 per cent
Mangystau region: 93.40 per cent
Zhambyl region: 92.73 per cent
East Kazakhstan region: 91.51 per cent
Kyzylorda region: 89.97 per cent
Kostanay region: 89.74 per cent
Support was lowest in Almaty city, with 71.36 per cent approval. Major cities like Astana and Shymkent recorded 86.32 per cent and 86.88 per cent support, respectively.
