A solemn public memorial service is currently taking place in Almaty to pay tribute to Talgat Mussabayev, famous Kazakh pilot, cosmonaut, and People’s Hero, who passed away on August 3, 2025, at the age of 75.
The ceremony is being held at the Officers' House, where an honor guard stands vigil at the entrance, reflecting the high esteem in which Mussabayev is held, The Caspian Post reports per Kazakh media.
Family members, close friends, colleagues, and prominent figures from the government and public sectors have gathered to bid their final farewell. Among the attendees are fellow cosmonauts Toktar Aubakirov and Aidyn Aimbetov.
Following the memorial service, a funeral prayer will be conducted at the 28 Panfilov Guardsmen Park, a site of great historical significance in Almaty.
Earlier, the Kazakh president extended condolences to Mussabayev’s family and loved ones through a heartfelt letter, acknowledging his remarkable contributions to Kazakhstan’s aerospace achievements and national pride.
Mussabayev’s legacy as a pioneering pilot and cosmonaut continues inspiring generations across Kazakhstan and beyond.
