National Water Resources Information System Under Development in Kazakhstan: Four Modules Launched

Kazakhstan continues to develop the National Water Resources Information System. Four modules have been launched in pilot mode, The Caspian Post reports citing the Zakon.kz.

The press service of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation explained that they are successfully operating in the following areas: "Administration", "Water Use", "Transboundary Waters" and "Cartography".

The Water Use module collects and processes data from 86 republican reservoirs on a daily basis. It allows for prompt monitoring of the state of water resources and making the necessary decisions.

The Transboundary Waters module collects data from 43 Kazhydromet hydroposts and is supplemented by information from regional sources on water consumption on interstate canals and reservoir operating modes. This ensures a comprehensive approach to water resource management in transboundary river basins.

The Cartography module allows visualization of data on more than 250 hydraulic structures, rivers and lakes of the Yesil and Zhaiyk-Caspian basins, as well as from 334 hydroposts. The functions of short-term and long-term forecasting of water flow, temperature, precipitation and snowmelt are also implemented.
