New Recreational Hub Coming to Kazakhstan’s Lake Alakol Thanks to Azerbaijan’s Investments

Azerbaijan investors are spearheading an exciting new development on the shores of Kazakhstan’s Lake Alakol, planning to build a state-of-the-art recreational and wellness complex.

Berik Uali, Governor of Kazakhstan’s Abai Region, has met with Alim Bayel, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan, to discuss expanding economic and tourism cooperation between the two nations, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The meeting also involved Aslan Kuniyarov, Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan Business Council and Chairman of the Board of the Association of Turkic Entrepreneurs, alongside representatives from Azerbaijan Investment Holding and the Azerbaijan Business Development Fund.

During the talks, the Azerbaijani delegation presented an ambitious investment project to develop an international year-round recreational and wellness complex on the shores of Lake Alakol. The facility is designed to host up to 800 visitors at a time, with a planned investment of up to $20 million. The project is expected to generate over 200 new jobs, increase the region’s tourism attractiveness, boost local tax revenues, and create a new cluster combining medical treatment with leisure activities.

Bayel emphasized the deepening partnership between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, noting that the Kazakh president conducted three official visits to Azerbaijan last year. These visits underscored the shared commitment to strengthen economic ties and develop joint projects in manufacturing and tourism sectors. In 2024, the two countries further cemented their collaboration by establishing a joint investment fund.

In turn, Uali expressed strong support for the initiative, confirming that the Abai Region is prepared to allocate land and provide all necessary assistance to ensure the project’s successful implementation.
