President Tokayev: Kazakhstan Plans to Open First University Campus in Turkmenistan

Kazakhstan is exploring the possibility of opening a university campus in Turkmenistan, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced during a press briefing following talks with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Tokayev highlighted that cultural and humanitarian cooperation remains a key pillar of Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan relations, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.

He noted the warm reception of the Days of Turkmen Culture in Astana and the unveiling of a monument to Magtymguly Fragi on the 300th anniversary of the renowned Turkmen poet.

A monument to Kazakh poet Abai was also opened in Ashgabat - another symbol of friendship between the two nations.

“We emphasized broader cooperation in culture - festivals, tours, and joint events - and discussed promising opportunities in science, education, and youth exchange. Kazakhstan has proposed opening a branch of one of its universities in Turkmenistan,” Tokayev said.

During the talks, both leaders reaffirmed their shared views on major regional and international issues. Tokayev stressed Kazakhstan’s readiness to continue working closely with Turkmenistan to ensure regional stability, security, and sustainable development.

He also praised Turkmenistan’s initiatives under the UN-backed International Year of Peace and Trust.
