Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has said that Kazakhstan expressed strong support for the ongoing efforts by Armenia and Azerbaijan to reach a lasting peace agreement.
President Tokayev made these remarks during his meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.
Speaking to reporters, Tokayev emphasized that Kazakhstan views the peace process between the two neighboring countries as historically significant and of vital importance for regional stability.
“Kazakhstan wholeheartedly supports the mutual aspiration of Armenia and Azerbaijan to conclude a peace agreement. We wish for the successful continuation of this important historic process and stand ready to assist in its advancement at any time. I reaffirmed this position during today’s talks with Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan,” Tokayev said.
In turn, Pashinyan said that relations between Armenia and Kazakhstan rose to the level of a strategic partnership, emphasizing the importance of Kazakhstan’s role during a key phase in regional diplomacy.
“Kazakhstan is very important for us, because during this significant period we had the opportunity to hold meetings in Almaty between our foreign minister and the foreign minister of Azerbaijan. This means a great deal to us,” Pashinyan said.
He noted that peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan is grounded in the Alma-Ata Declaration, which carries both concrete political significance and deep symbolism.
“I am very pleased that as a result of my official visit, relations between Armenia and Kazakhstan have been elevated to the level of a strategic partnership. This marks a new stage in the development of our cooperation in the region,” the Armenian prime minister added.
