Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has confirmed plans to visit Kazakhstan on a state visit at the end of May, following a phone call with Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
According to the Kremlin, the visit will be linked to the upcoming summit of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which is scheduled to take place later that month, The Caspian Post reports via Russian media.
Visit Tied to Key Regional Economic Summit
President Tokayev extended the official invitation during the conversation, proposing that Putin’s visit coincide with the EAEU summit. The meeting is expected to bring together leaders of member states to discuss regional economic integration, trade, and strategic cooperation.
Putin’s planned state visit highlights the importance of Kazakhstan in Russia’s regional diplomacy and economic partnerships.
Leaders Discuss Joint Projects and Economic Cooperation
During the call, the two presidents also reviewed progress on joint projects and initiatives, with a focus on strengthening trade, investment, and industrial cooperation between the two countries.
Russia and Kazakhstan maintain close economic ties, particularly in energy, transportation, and cross-border trade, making Kazakhstan one of Russia’s key partners in Central Asia.
Visit Expected to Strengthen Strategic Partnership
Putin’s upcoming visit is expected to further deepen bilateral relations and advance discussions on regional economic priorities. The trip could also result in new agreements and initiatives aimed at expanding cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union and beyond.
