Tokayev Ratifies Kazakhstan-Tajikistan Alliance Treaty

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed into law a measure ratifying the treaty on allied relations between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, according to an official statement issued by the presidential administration in Astana.

The announcement, dated May 5, 2026, confirmed that the legislation formalising the bilateral agreement has now been fully approved and enacted at the level of the head of state, The Caspian Post reports.

Previously, the upper chamber of parliament, the Senate, ratified the treaty on April 16, 2026, during a plenary session. Lawmakers noted at the time that the agreement is designed to give fresh impetus to the comprehensive development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.

A key focus of the treaty is the strengthening of trade and economic relations, with the objective of establishing more favourable conditions for business operations and expanding broader economic interaction between the two nations.

Officials further underscored that the ratification is expected to provide a basis for deeper political dialogue, closer collaboration on security issues, and the advancement of sustainable development initiatives in both countries.
