A major step forward has been taken for the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, as participants approved a comprehensive work plan for 2026 during a high-level meeting in Kazakhstan's capital Astana.
The decision was made at a joint session of the route’s governing board and general assembly, bringing together railway and logistics representatives from Kazakhstan, China, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania and Singapore, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
A central focus of the newly approved plan is the digitalization of transport operations. This includes the introduction of electronic documentation systems with digital signatures and direct data exchange between customs services and logistics participants - a move expected to significantly reduce transit times and improve transparency along the route.
The plan also aims to increase container traffic, including handling up to 600 container trains from China through Kazakhstan in 2026. Additional measures include stronger coordination between Caspian Sea ports and terminals, as well as optimization of key logistics processes.
Several agreements were signed following the meeting, reinforcing the corridor’s role as a strategic transit link between Asia and Europe and highlighting growing international cooperation along the route.
