US Extends License for Russian Oil Transit via Kazakhstan to China

The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of the Treasury has extended a license allowing the transit of Russian oil to China through Kazakhstan until March 19, 2027.

The extension follows negotiations between Kazakh authorities and the US regulator, ensuring the continued flow of Russian crude across Kazakhstan as part of regional energy logistics, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Earlier, the US issued a general license temporarily easing certain sanctions on Russia, permitting the sale and transportation of oil and oil products loaded before March 12. The measure is expected to remain in effect until April 11.

Western media report that Russian crude is currently being transported on dozens of vessels, with the decision effectively exempting at least 19 million barrels of oil and 310,000 tons of oil products from sanctions.
