A 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck near the Kyrgyzstan-China border at 13:44 (GMT+6).
The tremor was centered in China, about 40 km southeast of Bedel village, 85 km southeast of the Kumtor mine, and 145 km south of Karakol city, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
According to the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan, the quake’s intensity varied across the region:
Bedel village: 4.5 points
Kumtor mine: 4 points
Karakol: 3 points
Bishkek: 2.5 points
Earlier, a 6.0-magnitude earthquake was reported in Akqi County, Xinjiang, China, highlighting ongoing seismic activity in the region.
The tremor was also felt in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where local authorities reported minor tremors at 12:45, with an estimated magnitude of 2-3 points.
