EU Pledges 17M Euros to Overhaul Kyrgyzstan’s Water Management System

The EU has committed 17 million euros in grant funding to Kyrgyzstan to support sweeping reforms in its water management system and upgrade water-related infrastructure.

The agreement was formalized on October 10 in Brussels during the Global Gateway Forum, marking a significant step in bilateral cooperation, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the grant will be deployed to modernize the nation’s water supply and irrigation infrastructure, enhance efficiency in water management operations, and promote the sustainable use of water resources across Kyrgyzstan.

This initiative aligns with the EU’s broader goals of improving resilience, ensuring environmental sustainability, and supporting Central Asian nations in meeting growing infrastructure and climate-change related challenges. Local officials are expected to develop implementation plans in the coming weeks.
