Kyrgyz Leader Pushes Death Penalty for Child, Women Crimes

The Kyrgyz Constitutional Court has received a request from President Sadyr Japarov to issue an official conclusion on a draft law introducing the death penalty.

The draft law seeks to amend Part 1 of Article 25 of the Constitution, allowing the death penalty as an exceptional measure for particularly grave crimes against children, including rape and murder, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The initiative comes amid a rise in serious crimes against children and women and aims to strengthen their legal protection.

The move follows a recent case in Issyk-Kul, where a 17-year-old girl was abducted, raped, and murdered, prompting the president to call for stricter measures.

The Presidential Administration has initiated constitutional amendments to introduce the death penalty for child rape and the rape and murder of women, marking a major proposed shift in Kyrgyzstan’s criminal law.
