Kyrgyz Leader Vows Tougher Fight Against Crime and Corruption

Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov has firmly rejected speculation about early elections and regional divisions, while reaffirming his commitment to fighting crime, corruption, and strengthening state institutions through sweeping staff reforms.

Japarov addressed growing public debate following the resignation of security chief Kamchybek Tashiev, as well as concerns over political stability, staff policy, and national unity, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

President Rejects Fears of North-South Divide

Japarov dismissed the possibility of a split between northern and southern regions, warning that such divisions have historically been exploited by political elites seeking power.

“I will never allow division along north-south lines. Such splits begin when they serve the interests of politicians,” he said, stressing that ordinary citizens have often been used as tools in political rivalries.

Massive Staff Rotation Reshaping State Institutions

The president highlighted large-scale staff reforms launched in 2021, aimed at reducing regional influence and strengthening professionalism in government. Japarov said that all regional governors and judges have undergone full rotation, with officials from the south reassigned to northern regions and vice versa.

Similar changes have been implemented across key institutions, including the prosecutor’s office, the national security service, and the Interior Ministry.

Anti-Corruption Push to Expand to Local Government

Japarov said the rotation policy will soon extend to local self-government bodies, where corruption risks remain high. Authorities have identified cases where local officials awarded contracts, land, and public resources to relatives and close associates.

The president emphasized that these reforms are part of a broader strategy to ensure fairness, transparency, and national unity while strengthening the state’s ability to combat organized crime and corruption.
