Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has officially signed into law the ratification of an agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the International Development Association (IDA), securing additional financing for the Regional Economic Development Project in the Osh region and the city of Osh.
The agreement, which was originally signed on April 21, 2025, in Washington, D.C., aims to bolster ongoing development efforts in southern Kyrgyzstan through enhanced investment and infrastructure upgrades, The Caspian Post informs via Kyrgyz media.
According to the newly ratified legislation, the Ministry of Finance is now responsible for notifying the IDA once all domestic procedures have been completed to bring the agreement into legal force.
The development project focuses on stimulating economic growth, creating new jobs, and modernizing local infrastructure. Previous phases of the program have provided vital support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), improved transport and utility networks, and helped attract private sector investment to the region.
The additional financing is expected to accelerate these efforts, reinforcing the government’s broader strategy for balanced and inclusive regional development.
