Schoolchildren in Ak-Tala district of Kyrgyzstan’s Naryn region have switched to online learning due to extreme cold.
Officials reported that air temperatures have plummeted below -35°C, making it unsafe for pupils to attend in-person classes. The online learning schedule will remain in place for a week, until January 18, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
The Ministry of Education emphasized that decisions on shifting to remote classes are made by individual district education departments.
Pupils across Kyrgyzstan had just returned to schools after the winter holidays on January 12, but severe frost in the Naryn region has forced this temporary change.
