Kyrgyzstan Confirms High-Level Delegation for COP-30 in Brazil

Kyrgyzstan has officially announced its delegation for the upcoming COP-30 United Nations Climate Change Conference, which will be held in Belém, Brazil, in 2025.

The announcement was made during the National Climate Dialogue held this week in the Kyrgyz capital, The Caspian Post informs via Kyrgyz media.

The delegation will include Edil Baisalov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers; Dinara Kemelova, the Special Representative of the President for the Implementation of the Five-Year Action Plan for the Development of Mountain Regions; and Meder Mashiev, Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision.

Speaking at the event, Baisalov reflected on Kyrgyzstan’s active role at COP-29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, where the country participated with a large delegation that included the President, key ministries, civil society representatives, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Kyrgyzstan also had its own national pavilion at the conference.

“Few birds can fly across the ocean to Brazil,” Baisalov remarked, using a poetic metaphor to describe the challenge of long-distance participation. “But next year, with even greater commitment and a larger team - our entire aul - we will go to the magnificent city of Istanbul, Türkiye. Our delegation fully supports Istanbul’s bid to host COP-31.”

The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the supreme decision-making body of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), tasked with assessing progress in dealing with climate change. Since its launch in 1995, the COP has evolved into one of the world’s most prominent international forums, playing a crucial role in shaping global climate policy under the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement.

Kyrgyzstan, a mountainous country highly vulnerable to climate change, continues to advocate for sustainable development, climate adaptation, and increased support for mountain regions within the global climate agenda.
