A Kyrgyz delegation headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov took part in the United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, France.
Heads of state and government, representatives of international organizations, the scientific community, and civil society are taking part in the forum, The Caspian Post reports citing AKIpress.
Participants are discussing challenges and developing joint solutions for protecting the world oceans and ensuring the sustainable use of its resources.
Baisalov outlined Kyrgyzstan's position on agenda issues, including climate change, the preservation of water and mountain ecosystems, ensuring sustainable development, and the need to expand international cooperation. He stated that Kyrgyzstan, despite its landlocked location, recognizes the importance of preserving the world oceans as crucial elements of the global ecological system.
"As a full member of the United Nations, the Kyrgyz Republic cannot stand aside when it comes to protecting the world oceans. We are deeply concerned about climate change, biodiversity conservation, and humanity's adaptation to new challenges. We are ready to make every effort as a responsible member of the international community to support global initiatives in environmental protection and sustainable development," he said.
Bilateral meetings between the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and representatives of foreign governments and international organizations are also planned at the conference. During these negotiations, particular attention will be paid to developing environmental partnerships, implementing climate initiatives, and promoting Kyrgyzstan's foreign policy priorities in sustainable development.
Kyrgyzstan's participation in the UN Ocean Conference is a testament to its commitment to fulfilling global environmental obligations and its desire to strengthen international cooperation in combating climate change.
