Kyrgyzstan Eyes Major Boost in Hydropower Capacity

Head of the Eurasian Economic Union Affairs Sector in the Presidential Administration Eldar Alisherov has announced that Kyrgyzstan, with a hydropower potential of around 140 billion kilowatt-hours, is planning major reforms to expand its energy sector.

Alisherov made these remarks at an international conference on economic growth, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

Currently producing 14-15 billion kilowatt-hours, the country sees significant room for growth.

Alisherov highlighted the focus on green energy development, including large, medium, and small hydropower plants, alongside efficiency improvements to better meet domestic energy demand.

“Kyrgyzstan must learn to manage its energy potential effectively, starting with reforms that increase generation capacity and optimize efficiency,” he said, signaling a strong push toward sustainable and renewable energy expansion.
