A high-level meeting has been convened at the Cabinet of Ministers to discuss Kyrgyzstan’s preparations for the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games scheduled to be held in Los Angeles.
Deputy Chairman of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov highlighted the country’s ambition to secure the maximum number of qualification slots for its athletes, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kyrgyz media.
“We are expecting victories. Every government agency, local authority, and sports federation must diligently address current tasks to ensure the necessary conditions for preparing and supporting our athletes’ participation in this event,” Baisalov said.
The State Agency of Physical Culture and Sports outlined a comprehensive preparation plan. Kyrgyzstan aims to earn approximately 30 qualification slots across 14 sports disciplines, including rowing, fencing, weightlifting, and taekwondo. Meanwhile, the Paralympic team targets four slots across four different sports.
Key topics discussed during the meeting included financing for international competitions, modernization of sports infrastructure, the design of Olympic uniforms, athlete remuneration, management of the national medical center, and the broadcasting of the Olympic Games.
Officials also reviewed Kyrgyzstan’s upcoming participation in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy and the Asian Games in Japan, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to athletic excellence on the international stage.
