Starting April 1, 2026, Kyrgyzstan will fully remove electricity capacity restrictions that were in place during peak hours.
The decision follows the conclusion of the 2025-2026 fall-winter season, when temporary limits were introduced due to low water levels in the Toktogul Reservoir to ensure stable power supply, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
During peak hours-6:00-9:00 and 18:00-22:00 (GMT+6) - capacity had been reduced:
From 5 kW to 3 kW for single-phase users
From 8 kW to 5 kW for three-phase users
Authorities said the measures successfully prevented critical water shortages and maintained uninterrupted operation of the energy system.
In 2025, electricity consumption reached 19.095 billion kWh, a 4.7% increase over 2024, driven by new housing, industrial projects, and a growing number of consumers. By January 1, 2026, the total number of electricity users had reached 1,621,292-an increase of over 36,000 in a year.
The ministry added that preparations for the next fall-winter season have been successful, including equipment upgrades, major hydro plant renovations, and construction of small hydropower plants and substations. No power outages were reported during the past winter.
