Deputy Chairman of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov has said that Kyrgyzstan is maintaining ongoing dialogue with European authorities amid reports of possible restrictive measures by the European Union.
Baisalov made the remarks in an exclusive interview during a live broadcast on Nomad TV on the sidelines of the World Government Summit in Dubai, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
He said Kyrgyz diplomats in Brussels and other European capitals remain in constant contact with their partners. Bishkek plans to intensify engagement, including additional consultations and negotiations, to clarify the situation.
Baisalov noted that reports of potential restrictions have caused concern, particularly as Kyrgyzstan relies on imports of components for the IT sector, including high-performance computing equipment, as well as aviation fuel.
“We are puzzled by these reports, and we will step up negotiations, seek clarifications, and are also ready to provide explanations on our part,” he said, stressing that Kyrgyzstan is open to transparent dialogue with European partners.
He added that the country expects European authorities to show restraint and understanding, warning against steps that could harm Kyrgyzstan’s national development policies and economic stability.
The European Union is considering restrictive measures against Kyrgyzstan as part of efforts to curb the circumvention of sanctions imposed on Russia. The discussions reportedly include a possible ban on the export of machine tools and certain radio equipment to the republic.
Since early 2022, more than 20 Kyrgyz companies have been subjected to sanctions by the United States and the United Kingdom. These measures have affected financial institutions, the oil and gas sector, and supplies of electronic and telecommunications equipment, IT infrastructure, aviation fuel, and air transport services.
