Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan Pledge to Raise Trade to $100 Million

During the fifth session of the Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Inter-Governmental Commission (IGC) on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation held in Islamabad, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan committed to significantly increasing their bilateral trade, with a shared target of reaching $100 million.

The two countries mapped out an ambitious roadmap to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

Key steps include diversifying trade routes, revitalizing the Pakistan-Kyrgyz Joint Business Council, and organizing trade fairs, business forums, and B2B meetings to stimulate private sector engagement.

Several memoranda of understanding were signed during the session, including agreements to harmonize technical standards, promote mutual investment, and expand Halal certification cooperation.

Energy and environmental collaboration was a central topic, with Kyrgyzstan proposing joint involvement in a regional power transmission project connecting China, Kyrgyzstan, and northern Pakistan. Both nations also expressed interest in partnerships in renewable energy, mining, and hydrocarbons.

Improving regional connectivity was also prioritized. Discussions focused on expanding rail, cargo, and air transport, including Pakistan’s suggestion that Kyrgyz airlines establish regular commercial flights, and Kyrgyzstan’s invitation for Pakistan to join a planned high-speed fiber-optic network to enhance digital links.

Financial cooperation was addressed as well, with the central banks agreeing to collaborate on Islamic banking, fintech, and training initiatives.

The session ended with the decision to hold the next IGC meeting in Kyrgyzstan, with dates to be confirmed through diplomatic channels.

According to Kyrgyzstan’s State Statistical Committee, trade between the two countries reached $7.7 million during the first five months of 2025.
