President Japarov Sets Sights on Turning Kyrgyzstan into Key Central Asian Aviation Hub

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has announced ambitious plans to transform Kyrgyzstan into a major transport hub in Central Asia during a recent meeting with aviation sector professionals.

He revealed that construction has begun on the Jalal-Abad International Airport, one of the largest infrastructure projects since Kyrgyzstan’s independence, The Caspian Post informs via Kyrgyz media.

Strategically located near the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, the new airport will complement the upcoming Kashgar air corridor, set to open later this month.

“These initiatives will turn Kyrgyzstan into a central transport gateway in the region, opening up new economic and tourism opportunities,” the president said.

Japarov also highlighted the modernization of other airports: the renovated facilities in Naryn and Talas already offer improved passenger services, while Kazarman Airport is ready for commissioning. The Karakol International Airport, alongside the Ala-Too Resort ski complex, is poised to boost tourism in the Issyk-Kul region. Meanwhile, construction continues on a new terminal at Issyk-Kul Airport, designed to handle up to 450 passengers per hour.

Praising the expertise and dedication of civil aviation workers, Japarov credited them for keeping Kyrgyzstan’s airspace safe and enhancing the country’s global standing.

“Your work is essential to Kyrgyzstan’s future. On behalf of the nation, I express my sincere gratitude. The government remains committed to supporting the aviation industry,” he concluded.
