Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov has firmly dismissed speculation about a possible coup, stating that there are no conditions in the country that could lead to an unconstitutional change of power.
Japarov emphasized that the situation in Kyrgyzstan remains under control and that he personally oversees the work of government institutions, The Caspian Post reports via Russian media.
“No conditions exist for a coup,” president says.
“There is no situation in the country that could lead to a coup. If there are 24 hours in a day, I work 20 of them. I monitor everything closely, and if anything is wrong, I immediately instruct ministers, local authorities, and governors to fix it,” Japarov said.
He stressed that both the legal framework and the current political environment make any attempt at a coup impossible, adding that stability remains a top priority for his administration.
President Vows to Prevent Regional Divisions
Japarov also addressed concerns about potential divisions between northern and southern regions, which have historically influenced political dynamics in Kyrgyzstan.
He said such divisions were often fueled by politicians pursuing personal interests after the country gained independence. Japarov recalled that when he entered politics in 2005, government positions were frequently divided along regional lines.
“I promised myself that if I became president, I would cure Kyrgyzstan of this problem,” he said.
Government Reforms Aim to Strengthen Unity
The president noted that major staff reforms launched in 2021 have helped eliminate regional imbalances in state institutions. These included the rotation of regional governors, judges, and officials from key agencies such as the national security service, Interior Ministry, and prosecutor’s office.
Japarov said these measures are designed to promote national unity, ensure fairness in governance, and strengthen the stability of the country’s political system.
