UNICEF has launched its first-ever nationwide donation campaign in Kyrgyzstan, urging individuals and businesses to come together in support of children facing urgent challenges both at home and around the world.
The campaign seeks to rally the well-known generosity of Kyrgyz citizens to provide life-saving assistance-including food, healthcare, protection, and essential services-to children affected by conflict, malnutrition, environmental threats, and disability, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
“UNICEF has always stood by children, but we’re also an organization that brings people together to support them,” said Samman J. Thapa, UNICEF Representative to Kyrgyzstan. “With this campaign, the people of Kyrgyzstan have the opportunity to help children survive, thrive, and reach their full potential.”
Funds raised through the campaign will be directed toward four critical areas:
Children impacted by the humanitarian crisis in Gaza
Malnourished children in Sudan, Yemen, Gaza, and other vulnerable regions
Children in Kyrgyzstan exposed to harmful air pollution
Children with disabilities in Kyrgyzstan who face barriers to healthcare, education, and social inclusion
UNICEF emphasized that Kyrgyzstan has long benefited from global support for its own children-through programs such as immunization, safe schools, and child protection services. Now, the organization is inviting Kyrgyz citizens to show the same compassion and solidarity for children beyond their borders.
The campaign officially launches today across digital platforms, with convenient options for one-time or recurring donations online.
Kyrgyzstan ranks 64th out of 140 countries in the World Giving Index, and nearly 40 per cent of its citizens donated to charitable causes in 2024-highlighting the nation’s strong tradition of generosity.
UNICEF is funded entirely by voluntary contributions from individuals, businesses, foundations, and governments. Last year alone, over 10 million people globally contributed to its mission. Each donation-large or small-helps save lives, uphold children’s rights, and create opportunities for a better future.
The organization is globally recognized for its transparency and accountability, providing regular updates on how funds are spent and the impact they make on children's lives.
In a related development, youth from Kazakhstan have recently joined UNICEF’s Volunteering Initiative, reflecting growing regional engagement in advancing children’s rights and welfare across Central Asia.
